A Samsonite Luggage Set - Should You Get Nylon, Leather Or Hard-sided LuggageIf you're going to only get one set of luggage in your lifetime, I'd recommend it to be a samsonite luggage set. Samsonite is just built very well. Samsonite rolling luggage includes the Samsonite Supra 5 Series 25" Rolling Luggage which has a list price of $400, but tends to sell around $190. These are made out of Nylon Ballistic 1050D Dupont cloth which is exceptionally strong. It's about the most durable fabric besides Kevlar. When I went cross-country by bicycle, I used this kind of material on the pannier bags that I used; that was in 1986, and I'm still using the front bag today.
A Samsonite luggage set is designed to last a very long time. They all have push-button retractable handles, polyurethane wheels with ball bearings so that the friction is kept to a minimum when they roll along the ground. If you really load down your luggage, as I do, then you're going to be glad that your samsonite luggage set can withstand so much abuse. Discount luggage sets are a good way of getting more than one piece of luggage at a very low price. You tend to get one of them almost for free when you pay for a whole set of luggage. If you get a leather luggage set, instead of nylon or some other kind of plastic cloth it will basically last forever. Leather just has excellent abrasion resistance. About the only thing that is stronger is when you purchase samsonite hardside luggage. These, because they are hard plastic, can withstand almost any abuse that is given to them. If you were to drop a nylon one down a flight of stairs, I certainly wouldn't guarantee that it would make it to the bottom of the stairs, intact. If you were to do the same thing with hard-side luggage, then it probably would end up in perfect condition afterwards. A samsonite luggage set always comes with their own Hanging ID tags so you can make sure that your entire luggage makes it back to you in the event that it gets separated while you are in flight. Most have the ability to expand another 2 to 3 inches if you need the extra room. Sometimes people bring things home, presents or clothes; and then when they go back they don't have as much as they did when they arrived. If that occurs, then you'll be glad that you can reduce the bag's thickness So, when you purchase a samsonite luggage set, you need to ask yourself whether you want the lightweight aspect of nylon, the longevity of leather, or the incredible strength of a hard-side case. There are advantages and disadvantages to all three of the choices. It's more a matter whether you wish to juggle it in one direction, or another. To have light weight means that it's easier for someone to break into the luggage. To have the utmost in durability, it's going to be much heavier to carry. Leather is a good happy medium between the two. |
